Jones and DeMille and San Juan County, 20 years of growth.

Those who travel US 191 regularly through the town of Monticello have been witness to construction of new offices for Jones and DeMille Engineering. The new building is going up on the north end of town.  The firm  has been working in San Juan County for over 20 years.  San Juan County was served until 2015 by engineers, surveyors, and construction managers out of their office in Richfield, Utah. For the past 5 years the firm has been leasing space near the Public Safety building in Monticello. Growth has made that tight for the current staff of nine.  Admin staff along with five engineers, a surveyor and two construction technicians will soon move into the new office space in Monticello. The new offices leave room to grow.  And the new facilities also include a fully operational materials testing lab.

Danny Flanery, who goes by Scoot, is the office manager for Jones DeMille in Monticello. He explained the local makeup of the office, “Five of our team members were born and raised in Monticello, two in Blanding, and one in Dove Creek. One, a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, Nevada chose Blanding as a new home to raise his family and has been with us for four years. We have found that many who grew up in or near San Juan County would love to make their homes and careers here with the right opportunity.”

Many in the team started working at Jones DeMille after high school, missions, or during college as interns.

Flannery continued, “As a company we intentionally seek out those individuals who would like to make their careers in San Juan County, and get them on track at a young age to achieve this goal.  Three of our five current engineers spent their summers as interns for JDE prior to graduating college. This spring we will have two new engineers starting in our Monticello and St. George offices from Blanding and Monticello, respectively.  They both spent several summers with us as interns.”

And quality of life means a lot to this team. “Our team members chose San Juan County for many reasons.” Flannery says. “We would like our kids to enjoy growing up in a small town, spending time outdoors, and developing relationships that only small communities provide.”

Scoot expresses the love of seeing local projects progress and helping find solutions to infrastructure problems or deficiencies. He says it has also been satisfying to help find funding for important projects.

“We feel that as locals, we have a vested interest in the success of each project.  We know that our relationships go far beyond the project.” Flannery said.

“San Juan County has the technical infrastructure that allows us to connect to our other offices, clients, and to use programs necessary to run an engineering firm.” Scoot continues, “San Juan County has also been pro-development and growth minded.  The officials and staff for the county and local towns are very motivated to complete the projects that will shape the quality of life of the citizens of the area. We love working in this area for those reasons.”

Scoot says the office in Monticello will act as a hub for work in all of the Four Corner States.  San Juan County and the surrounding area have many infrastructure improvement needs. He pointed out needs in transportation, utilities, culinary water, site developments, storm water improvements, irrigation, water storage, wastewater, watershed protection, and building design as just a few.

When asked why San Juan County Flannery had this to say.  ”Our team is diversely made up of the skills to complete all of the projects mentioned above, and willing to make the personal investment in our communities to see them succeed!  That’s why we choose San Juan.”
